Written by Nikki Andrea

The newly revamped Yunnan Garden has officially opened in NTU on 13 Feb, boasting a vast space of waterscapes and greenery.

Yunnan Garden, built in the 1950s, has historical significance as the birthplace of the previously named Nanyang University. More than just a heritage site, its cultural significance lies with past graduation ceremonies that were held at the Nanyang University Memorial, a gazetted national monument located in the Garden.

The boardwalk connects the Garden to the newly expanded Nanyang Lake, which has outdoor fitness stations alongside it.

To promote inclusivity/active mobility, there is also wheelchair and stroller-friendly footpaths and ramps.

NTU chairman Mr Koh Boon Hwee said: “With new features such as Wi-Fi connectivity, water coolers and wheelchair accessibility, our aim is to transform Yunnan Garden into an inclusive attraction that is in sync with the times, relevant and useful to today’s students.”
