4 Quirky Valentine’s Day Date Ideas To Impress Your S.O

Written by Shannon Ang

Welcome to the first of a three-part U-Insight Valentine’s Day series, where our writers give (hopefully helpful) tips on how to survive this yearly affair catered for the couples, the brokenhearteds and the singles

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, having a memorable date planned out is of utmost importance (besides having the perfect gift picked out!). If you find yourself at a loss of date ideas with your S.O, but definitely know that you don’t want to get stuck in a Netflix and takeout rut and leave your date unimpressed – read on to see what cliche-free activities will strike your fancy!

1. For the adrenaline junkies

Designed by renowned F1 racing circuit designer Hermann Tilke, the KF1 Circuit Kranji is the longest track in Singapore with a length of 960m. Challenge your S.O and unleash your inner Lewis Hamilton and go Singapore Grand Prix style night racing.

If you don’t own a driving license, fret not, you can also opt for fun karting at the novice level, which powers up to 30km/hr.

Address: 511 Upper Jurong Road, KF1 Arena, Singapore 638366 | 1 Turf Club Avenue, KF1 Kranji, Singapore 738078

Opening hours: KF1 Arena: 12pm to 9pm (Mondays to Fridays) 9am to 9pm (Weekends); KF1 Kranji: 1pm to 9pm (Tuesdays to Fridays) | 9am to 9pm (Weekends) | Closed on Mondays

2. For the ‘indoors only’

Up for a little fun and flirty competition indoors? If that’s your thing, bring your date for a game of mini golf at Singapore’s first mini golf club and bar, Holey Moley. With its interior spiced with pop culture references, films like Jaws and board games like Monopoly, the place is extremely Instagram-friendly.

The venue also features live DJs and serves your usual fast food nosh – burgers, hotdog and fries. If you’re feeling fancy, there’s also a full service cocktail bar, The Caddyshack.

University students enjoy special rates for mini golf and Happy Hour on Thursdays – so you might want to beat the crowd and celebrate Valentine’s Day in advance!

Address: 3B River Valley Road, Singapore 179024

Opening hours: 12pm to 10pm (Mondays) | 12pm to 12am (Tuesdays) | 12pm to 1am (Wednesdays and Thursdays) | 12pm to 2am (Fridays)| 10am-2am (Saturdays)| 10am-10pm (Sundays)

3. For the artistic souls

Get a little hands on and work on making matching couple tees or totes together! Unlike other regular art jamming studios where acrylic paint is used to draw on canvas, Streaks n Strokes does it with a twist. You can work on tees, tote bags and canvas shoes using their own in-house hand mixed fabric paint. However, if you feel more comfortable with canvas as a base, they have that available too!

A typical art jam session lasts two hours and it’s all good even if you have zero art experience. All you need is a little imagination and a tinge of playfulness and it’ll be a fun-filled art session.

4. For the adventurous foodies

Getting bored of cafe-hopping? Bring your date to the next level by visiting Singapore’s only floating Seafood Restaurant – Smith Marine Kelong Restaurant, located off the coasts. Seafood lovers will be in for a treat – they serve a fresh array of clams, chilli crab and mussels directly from the sea.

Alternatively, get your hands dirty and catch your own fish, which can be grilled on the spot for a fee.

Do note that you have to make reservations three days in advance. The reservation includes a ferry pick-up at Changi Point Ferry Terminal.

Address: Pulau Ubin Coastal Area

Opening hours: Daily from 10am-8pm

This is the first of our 3-part Valentine’s Day series. Stay tuned for part 2 and part 3!
